Filmmaking is made easier with the Focus Map function, which visualizes the depth of field during video recording. This feature overlays focus information on the live view display in real time, allowing you to clearly identify in-focus and out-of-focus areas. This is especially useful when working with large apertures to achieve a narrow depth of field. Additionally, the camera includes a peaking display for both auto and manual focus checks while recording.

High-Performance Electronic Viewfinder

The camera features a 2.36 million-dot XGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 1.07x magnification, delivering exceptional detail. It boasts twice the brightness of the a6600 and a wider 33-degree viewing angle for clear, effortless viewing during shoots. The viewfinder frame rate can be set to 120 fps, doubling the standard rate to ensure a smooth image with minimal motion blur when tracking moving subjects.

View from Every Angle

Whether shooting handheld or with a gimbal, the a6700’s large 3.0-type 1.03 million-dot touch-panel LCD monitor offers extensive positioning and framing freedom. This is advantageous for capturing low ground-level shots or working in tight spaces, providing numerous creative options for both handheld and gimbal-mounted shooting of stills and videos.

Real-Time Recognition AF for Humans

The a6700’s enhanced Real-time Recognition AF uses subject form data for improved human eye recognition. It employs learned human forms and postures to accurately identify body and head positions, even when the subject is facing away from the camera or their face is obscured by sunglasses or a helmet.

Expanded Real-Time Recognition AF

Beyond humans and animals, the a6700 now also recognizes birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes. This provides increased flexibility and reliability for shooting both stills and videos. The camera identifies heads and bodies, in addition to eyes, with enhanced animal recognition performance over 40% higher than the a6600.

Faster, More Precise AF System

The advanced BIONZ XR engine boosts AF performance with up to 759 phase-detection points covering approximately 93% of the image area for stills. Leveraging deep learning technology, it supports powerful Real-time Recognition AF and reliable Real-time Tracking, enhancing Fast Hybrid AF performance over a broader area.

Shoot Over 1000 Images at High Speed

The a6700’s BIONZ XR processing engine and large buffer memory enable high-speed continuous shooting of more than 1000 JPEG images, up to 59 compressed RAW images, or up to 23 lossless compressed RAW images. It can also shoot silently at up to 11 fps with full resolution and AF/AE tracking using the noiseless, vibration-free electronic shutter.

Accurate AF in Low Light

The latest AF algorithms achieve high precision even in light levels as low as EV -3.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens). The Focus Priority mode further enhances reliability in low-light conditions or with smaller apertures.

Full-Time DMF

When using AF-C or AF-S autofocus, you can rotate the lens’s focus ring to instantly switch to manual focus mode. This feature facilitates quick adjustments to focus on different subjects.

Focus Bracketing for the Perfect Shot

The a6700 can automatically capture up to 299 images with sequentially shifted focus points based on your custom intervals and sequence. This allows you to select the best shot or post-process multiple images to create composites with incredible depth of focus.

In-Camera Time-Lapse Creation

Create time-lapse videos directly in the camera with adjustable exposure intervals from 1 to 60 seconds. With a compatible video light (sold separately) attached, it can be set to activate just before each exposure, allowing time-lapse sequences even in low-light settings.

Breathing Compensation for Consistent View

When shooting movies with compatible lenses, breathing compensation maintains a consistent angle of view by suppressing changes caused by shifts in focus position. Breathing metadata can also be used during post-production.

Outstanding 4K Movie Recording

The a6700 captures 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) video at up to 60p (50p) using Sony’s proprietary 6K oversampling technology. This compresses the expanded detail into the output, achieving exceptional 4K video quality even at higher frame rates. It supports high-quality XAVC S-I (All-Intra) and XAVC HS formats with 10-bit 4:2:2 color sampling.

Expressive S-CINETONE

Featuring the same color science as Sony's CineAlta and Cinema Line, the a6700 includes the S-Cinetone picture profile for faithful color reproduction and natural skin tones.

S-LOG3 Gamma Curve with 14+ Stops of Latitude

The S-Log3 gamma curve emphasizes gradation from shadows to mid-grey, offering up to 14+ stops of latitude for creative color grading.

Creative Look

The Creative Look feature offers 10 presets for flexible and straightforward customization. These can be used as-is or adjusted to match your subject or scene, whether for stills, videos, or live streaming.

10-Bit HEIF Still-Image Format

For the first time in an APS-C camera, the a6700 supports the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File) format. This provides smooth 10-bit gradations for more realistic sky and skin tone reproduction, with advanced compression technology to reduce file size while maintaining image quality.

Import and Use Custom LUT Files

Preview how your footage will look in post-processing by importing a user LUT (.cube format) into the camera. This allows you to see the effects of LUTs in real time on your monitor image.

Smarter Real-Time Tracking

The upgraded AI-based Real-time Tracking simplifies shooting across various scenarios, letting you focus on framing and composition. It can even track people wearing helmets or animals facing away from the camera.

High Frame Rate 4K 120p Recording

Capture high-resolution 4K movies at up to 120p, expanding creative possibilities in post-production by allowing for smooth slow motion or emphasis on subject motion. The S&Q mode also enables slow or quick motion recording directly in-camera.

Active Mode for Enhanced Movie Image Stabilization

Active Mode offers powerful image stabilization for handheld shooting. The a6700 accurately detects camera shake and compensates optically, providing effective stabilization without sacrificing mobility, even during 4K recording.

AI-Based Auto Framing for Movies
