Back-Illuminated 24.2MP Full-Frame Sensor
The 35 mm full-frame Exmor R CMOS image sensor features 24.2 megapixels of resolution, back illumination, and a gapless on-chip lens design for exceptional sensitivity and dynamic range. Enhanced data readout speed is achieved through advanced copper wiring and front-end LSI, delivering twice the performance for capturing detail.
Advanced Image Processing System
Combining a new-generation image processor with the latest sensor technology, the A7 III delivers up to 1.5 stops of improved image quality. It boasts a wide ISO range of up to 51200 and achieves approximately 15 stops of dynamic range at lower sensitivity settings. Enhanced Detail Reproduction and Area-specific Noise Reduction work together to minimize noise and preserve high-resolution details. The camera also supports 14-bit RAW output even during silent or continuous shooting.
Enhanced Autofocus Performance
The A7 III features an evolved image processing system and AF algorithms borrowed from the a9, offering improved autofocus speed, precision, and tracking. With 693 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection points, you benefit from high-density, wide-area coverage. Experience autofocus speed that is up to twice as fast and more accurate tracking performance, ensuring you capture and maintain focus on fast-moving subjects even in challenging conditions. The camera also supports reliable autofocus down to EV-3 brightness.
Precision Eye AF
The Eye AF feature now supports AF-C mode with enhanced precision, making it easier to capture stunning portraits. The improved AF speed allows you to photograph moving subjects, even if they look away from the camera or are backlit. Eye AF is also supported for A-mount lenses when used with an adapter.
Convenient AF-ON Button and Multi-Selector
The AF-ON button allows for instant autofocus activation without the need for a half-press of the shutter button, enabling you to focus solely on capturing the perfect moment. The multi-selector makes it easy to shift the point of focus quickly and intuitively, ensuring you never miss a critical shot.
Streamlined Continuous Shooting
Images captured in continuous shooting mode can be grouped for easy management. Groups can be deleted or protected with a single operation. The camera's higher burst capacity and UHS-II media compatibility streamline data writing to memory cards, and you can adjust settings using the Fn and menu buttons while data is still being written.
Touchscreen LCD for Instant Focus
The 3.0-type, 922K-dot LCD screen offers touch functionality and clear, detailed views even in bright outdoor conditions. Use Touch Focus to instantly focus on a point you select on the screen or Touch Pad to move the focus frame while monitoring the shot through the viewfinder. The LCD tilts up to 107° and down to 41°, providing flexible camera handling and shot monitoring.
In-Body 5-Axis Image Stabilization
The comprehensive 5-axis image stabilization system compensates for five types of camera shake: pitch/yaw, X/Y, and roll. This system provides a 5.0-stop advantage, allowing you to fully exploit the camera’s high-quality imaging and live-view performance. It works with both A-mount lenses via an adapter and E-mount lenses.
